It's bad enough going to bed knowing that Nancy Pelosi is the House Speaker, but waking up to find out that Tom McClintock and company lost the races for our California offices just puts icing on this bitter cake. Apparently only the red districts were reporting last night close to midnight, because the precincts were reporting a fairly significant lead for McClintock, Parrish and McPherson. This morning saw a different outcome. It's Schwarzenegger and a gaggle of democrats, spare Poizner.
As far as California politics go, no one should be surprised that Prop 85, the Parental Notification intiative, didn't pass. It is shocking, however, that despite the biggest liberals pushing for the approval of Prop 87, it failed to pass. Al Gore must be so disappointed. He'll get over it, as the Dems have taken the house.
I suppose it's only natural. We had it for twelve years, we can let them borrow it for two.
Well, congratulations to all the democrats. Ya had the media, ya played dirty and ya won. Fair and square. Here's to you.

Posted by: shira at November 8, 2006 09:35 AMFor the last two Sundays I got to watch California TV while viewing my Bears on TVU. The opposition to Prop 87 spent a ton of money on ads and seemed to have an effective message. I'm glad that enough Californians saw fit to vote it down.
Hopefully Republicans and conservatives can learn from this election and find a winning strategy that's more than just "The other side stinks and doesn't know what they're doing". I am concerned about our efforts in Iraq and how that area could end up in the nicely manicured hands of Pelosi.
[It's bad enough that you have to see her since she's from your state - now the rest of the country will have to withstand her visage. Ugh.]
Posted by: Marc V at November 8, 2006 10:06 AMChalk this one up to the old axiom: "Beware of stupid people in large numbers."
The Dems played on the heartstrings of the middle class since G-dub was elected and it finaly struck a solid note. Just wait 2 years and they'll see what's what...unfortunately it might happen sooner than that if the Dem's foriegn policy changes to allow the free flow of terrorism to run rampant in our streets. People will be screaming for another change, but it will be too late.
Posted by: Nasa Nerd at November 8, 2006 10:23 AMThe phrase "toasting the end of civilization" was sent by textmessage to dear Portia by her Pop while he sat in the Chophouse in Chicago watching the returns come in that night. Surrounded by joyful bluefolks, he had a nice filet mignon and baked potato with a red cabernet and raised a glass to all the fools amongst us. Talk radio got a reprieve, the loons on the left rushed the podium with nothing to say and the warriors amongst us gird ourselves up once again. No fear and self loathing here, just confidence in the One who has the real power, my heavenly Father.
