When the New York Times says that President Bush has the authority to declassify C.I.A. reports, you know the mainstream media's most recent battle against him might be over soon.
Yes, the NYT said that President Bush is fully justified in his alleged decision to release information via Libby regarding Iraq's desire to purchase uranium.
If Mr. Libby's account is accurate, it also involves Mr. Bush directly in the swirl of events surrounding the disclosure of the identity of an undercover C.I.A. officer.
The president has the legal power to declassify information, and Mr. Libby indicated in his testimony that the president's decision — which he said was conveyed through Mr. Cheney — gave him legal cover to pass on information contained in a National Intelligence Estimate.
A very thorough break down of the events leading up to yesterday's news of the president's involvement is here.
Posted by Portia at April 7, 2006 06:18 AM | TrackBackBush is going against everything he said he stood for in regards to leaking information. His campaign was based on how there is never an excuse to leak information, that people who do should be prosecuted. This is so clearly a political move to deal with the fact that they had no justification to go into Iraq. Defended by the fact that there were no WMDs. How many scandals? How many uncovered lies does it take? What more do you need to see that this administration does not care about, the truth, protecting their citizens, the enviroment, the economy, health care... Name one thing this president has done right? Name one achievement? Taking Saddam out? At what cost? The majority of Americans think the country is moving in the wrong direction with Bush. GOP is at an all time low, the president has now been implicated in two secret operations that are both illegal. Republicans are coming out against him everyday. I don't know what else to say to you people, the evidence speaks for itself. You can either choose to look at it or keep your eyes covered.

Posted by: MacStansbury at April 7, 2006 10:48 PMJust because it might have been legal for Bush to declassify the information about the CIA operative, doesn't mean it was moral. It was for political gain.
